bld-ing new perspectives:
bld studio launch
Jan 29 2024
Exactly 10 years ago, we opened the doors of Raw Creative in a 200-square-foot space full of hand-me-down tools, squeezed between a coffee roaster and a hot sauce company. That very particular bouquet of smells, burned in our brains, will forever be associated with the promise of starting something entirely new.
Fresh from our Masters in Architecture graduation and full of big dreams, we knew we had a lot to learn. But we were certain of two things: we wanted to tell great stories through the built environment, and build cool shit.
We’d seen the gap between designer and builder lead to countless spaces missing the mark for their primary audience—the people who use them on a daily basis. As designers at heart, we knew we could close that gap and create spaces that wouldn’t just accommodate their users but feel tailor-made for them.
Since then, our shop has grown 75 times its original size to 15,000 square feet, featuring complete wood, metal and concrete studios full of state-of-the-art technology. We’ve helped countless architects and designers realize their designs and worked on bigger—and more innovative—projects than we thought possible.
The size and scope of our work has grown dramatically, but our passion for storytelling has remained the same.
So now, exactly a decade after launching Raw Creative over beers at Highland Tap and Burger, we’re announcing the launch of our newest venture, bld studio. While Raw will continue to produce high-end fabrication, bld will be solely focused on architecture and design, satisfying our obsession with creating authentic, enduring and beautifully crafted spaces—spaces that speak directly to the people that inhabit them.
Our studio will lean on multidisciplinary collaboration, push the boundaries of innovation and create enduring designs rooted in narrative—expanding the traditional notions of what architecture can be.
From the symbolic use of materials to the interaction between a building, its environment and the community it serves, every space tells a story, a story that shapes the human experience in profound ways through our daily routines and interactions. It is an honor and responsibility to be trusted with these stories, and not one we take lightly.
Thank you for championing us every step of the way. This is only the beginning.
Cheers,
Mike + Breton
